Dr. Melissa Stolsig

Clinical Psychologist, CA PSY30738/ CO PSY.0005510/ NYS 025532/ NV PY1137/ VA 0810008494/ FL TPPY1024

In the past decade, I’ve worked with clients who are so vastly different, yet in their humanity, so alike. From narcotic treatment facilities, assisted living communities, and community mental health centers, the struggle with addiction, or a history of traumatic experiences, the common thread is human suffering and the incredible capacity for healing and growth. I truly believe that people already have everything they need to grow and heal, and the therapeutic relationship is simply the space we create where one can find their strengths.

My ideal client is willing to engage in therapy to heal, grow or simply feel better. I am able to work with a variety of people from different populations due to my non-judgmental stance and curiosity about other people. I am adept at working with individuals who experience multiple problems simultaneously due to my willingness to work with other providers. I am trauma informed and culturally sensitive.

I use an Existential-Humanistic perspective blended with an understanding of each individual's unique character defenses to focus on emotions in the moment. I pull from many intervention modalities to tailor an evidence based and individualized experience of human connectedness that is based in compassion.

I work with clients 18 years and older individually or in groups. Special populations I treat include: LGBTQIA+, individuals experiencing racial trauma (BIPOC), men, perinatal/postnatal support, survivors of trauma, older adults (65+), active military, veterans & their adult family members. I am an EMDR Trained therapist.

Hi there and welcome! By choosing to visit here today, I imagine you’re likely in the midst of searching for the right "fit" to join you in the process of self-evolution. The decision to focus on your mental health is not an easy one, and I salute you for taking the initial, sometimes uncomfortable steps toward inner growth. It is fully encouraged that you take your time as you search for a direction that you feel confident in, though I would be honored to partner alongside you when you’re ready.

I am driven by the notion that everyone deserves a space where they feel listened to and valued for who they are. The unpredictable, complex, and ever-changing nature of our lives can often feel overwhelming to sift through alone. My priority is to offer you a safe and mutually respectful place where together, we may take a pause; reconnect with the present; and move toward unique depths of self-discovery, where you are free to express yourself openly and without restriction. Most importantly, we will do so on your terms. I believe the strength and trust of the client-therapist relationship to be the heart of all that we accomplish.

I received my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University, which led me to work at a private practice in New York City for over 2 years. In my current role as one of TPCC’s associate clinicians, I treat individuals 12-64 years old, couples and families. With each of my clients, collaborative teamwork is key as together we empower a vision of self and of life that feels fullest to them. My treatment approach is integrative, with an emphasis on Psychodynamic, Gestalt, and Person-Centered. Foundational to all my sessions is a Trauma-informed and Multiculturally-sensitive framework. I am EMDR trained.

When I’m not with clients, I enjoy being outside at the beach or on a new hiking trail with my dog Phoenix; traveling to new places; photography and creative writing. I’d love for you to put yourself on the waitlist and request to work with me if you are interested in setting up a time to meet.

Registered Associate Marriage Family Therapist CA AMFT 150866

Under supervision of Dr. Melissa Stolsig, Psy.D. CA PSY30738; Turning Point Psychology Center, Inc.

Many people come to therapy when life feels uncertain, when relationships feel heavy or the path forward feels blurry. You may feel on autopilot, staying in a draining job, losing touch with yourself, or stuck between who you were and who you want to be. I understand feeling trapped in a chapter that no longer fits while unsure how to step into the next one.

As someone who grew up in Asia within a Western environment, I spent years moving between cities and countries that shaped my understanding of identity, belonging, and home. This multicultural perspective helps me create a space where you can explore the parts of yourself that feel grounded, the parts that feel lost, and the parts still learning where they want to belong.

I work from a warm, mindful, collaborative lens. Our work will focus on creating space where you can slow down, reconnect with yourself, and explore what you carry. My approach blends trauma informed care, somatic awareness, mindfulness, expressive arts, and inner child exploration. I offer gentle challenge when it supports your growth and helps you reconnect with your strengths.

My clinical experience spans a range of communities and life stages. I have worked with youth facing homelessness and instability, children and families in foster care and child welfare, caregivers navigating grief and chronic stress, and older adults living with cognitive disorders and dementia.

I hold an M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Southern California and a B.A. in Psychology and Family Studies from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. My work is guided by cultural humility, curiosity, and the belief that therapy is a place to come home to yourself, even when life feels uncertain or shifting.

Outside of work, I love exploring new places and finding grounding through an active lifestyle. I believe in a holistic approach to wellness, where movement, intentional nourishment, and quiet moments of reflection help us feel connected from within and support both the mind and the nervous system. When we care for our body with small, consistent habits, we often feel more steady and able to trust ourselves, and these practices help me stay present and caring for the people I support.

I believe that healing begins with feeling truly understood. Deeply connected to the immigrant experience, I am passionate about supporting individuals and families who may feel caught between cultures or burdened by the stigma surrounding mental health. Fluent in Mandarin, I am dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming space where language and culture are embraced as integral strengths in the therapeutic process.

I earned my master’s degree in counseling psychology from Northwest University in 2019 and am currently pursuing a doctoral degree at Pacifica Graduate Institute, an institution known for its emphasis on depth psychology. This tradition highlights the role of meaning, narrative, and the unconscious in healing.

Since 2022, I have been providing psychotherapy through clinical practicum and advanced training. I work with clients, age 13+ who are navigating experiences of trauma, depression, anxiety, family conflict, acculturation stress, and identity-related challenges. I view symptoms not as problems to be fixed, but as meaningful expressions of resilience and creativity.

My therapeutic style is compassionate, relational, and culturally responsive. I integrate psychodynamic and trauma-informed approaches with mindfulness and somatic experiencing, while staying attuned to the impact of family history, cultural identity, and systemic barriers on well-being. Clients often describe me as warm, open, and deeply invested in their growth. My goal is to walk alongside each person on their path toward authenticity, resilience, and emotional well-being.

If you’re feeling weighed down by trauma, anxiety, or relationship struggles, you don’t have to walk this path alone. I offer a safe, compassionate space where your story is heard, your pain is honored, and healing can begin. Together, we will uncover your strengths, develop effective coping tools, and move toward peace, resilience, and deeper connection. I utilize somatic experiencing blended with EMDR-informed principles to help clients process and release the effects of trauma through body-based awareness and integration.

I help individuals, couples, and families find hope and balance through trauma-informed and strength-based counseling. My approach is personalized and collaborative, meeting you where you are and helping you build the skills and insight needed for lasting change. For those seeking a faith-based approach, I also offer Christian counseling that integrates prayer and Scripture for Christ-centered healing and growth.

With an intimate understanding of both the veteran and first responder lifestyles, I am dedicated to providing a safe haven for those who serve our communities. My work is shaped by both professional training and over two decades of marriage and parenting, experiences that deepen my empathy and understanding of family dynamics.

I earned my Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from San Diego State University and am currently pursuing my Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) at California Southern University, where my research focuses on marital satisfaction in military couples affected by combat-related PTSD. Before joining Turning Point, I served as a Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, helping adults and youth overcome barriers related to disabilities, as well as providing individual, couples, youth, and group therapy in a private practice setting.

My goal as a therapist is to walk beside you with empathy, honesty, and hope—helping you move toward a more peaceful, connected, and fulfilling life.

Let us help you achieve your goals.
